by Q: I feel like I am falling backwards.....
Q: I am 28 and have been playing for about 10 years. My handicap is about
12 -14 and I am having a problem with my hips getting through the shot
before my upper body ( I think). The end result is I am off balance at the
finish of my swing. I feel like I am falling backwards at the end of my swing.
What is wrong?
Thanks,
- Carl
A: Dear Carl,
Check your set-up and make sure your weight distribution is equal on each
foot. Also make sure that your weight is near the balls of your feet. A
good drill is to take two 4X6 boards and cut them into three foot lengths.
Use one board as your foot target line as one and the other as a tee for
your ball. Now swing easy as you're standing on one board and work on
feeling your balance. After about ten swings begin to swing a little
harder. Continue to feel your balance and if you're falling off make an
adjustment so that you don't fall off. Now place a ball on the second
board and try to hit it while maintaining your balance. Continue this drill
until you feel comfortable. After you feel good about your progress hit
some balls from the grass and feel the improvement.
