In the time it takes to play 18 holes… 18 men will lose their lives to prostate cancer.
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Arnold Palmer, our honorary chairman, is asking golf clubs everywhere to host "Arnie's Army" closest-to-the-pin contests to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation. We are reaching out to the golfing industry to ask for your help/partnership in getting this word out.
Bottom line: we need help asking golfers everywhere to set-up a contest at their club (public or private) or in their upcoming golf outing, league play or amateur tournament.
How it works:
Once a date is selected, we ship the prizes and things to help publicize it like a sign, a sign-up form and a tee box sign. There is no cost to arrange a contest. The prize this quarter is a $200 MacGregor V-foil putter. (We are open to other possibilities in the future.)
On or before the day of the contest, players enter by putting their name on the form and paying a $20 entry fee. In addition to the fundraising, the fee includes Arnold Palmer memorabilia like magnetized hat clip pins/ball markers, Sharpie golf ball markers, information about prostate cancer, a one-year subscription to Golf Digest Magazine and a Lamkin golf club grip.
Things you can do:
Partner with us in some win-win way.
Put us in your newsletter.
Post our logo on your site.
Schedule a contest - http://www.arniesarmybattles.com/schedule_contest.htm
Include us in an upcoming event - http://www.arniesarmybattles.com/having_event.htm
Refer us to your pro - http://www.arniesarmybattles.com/refer_pro.htm
Forward this to your customers, employees, or other industry contacts with your endorsement.
Thank you.

THE CREEK AT HARD LABOR NEAR MADISON TO RE-OPEN By JAMES, CHARLES Posted: 2005-08-10

| The Creek at Hard Labor golf course near Madison will re-open August 13, after being closed most of the summer to allow maintenance crews to convert the greens to a new ultra dwarf hybrid Bermuda, called Champion Bermuda. The scientifically-propagated grass will greatly enhance the golfing experience at the course.
Additionally the greens at The Creek were enlarged 65% overall, a much needed improvement.
“With the new grass and the increase in putting surfaces, our greens may well be the best in the area,” enthused Terry Phillips, course manager. The rates are certainly some of the most attractive. The weekday rate is just $35 and the weekend rate is $45 for 18 holes with cart.
Tee times are being accepted by calling 706-557-3006 or toll free 1-888-353-4592. The Creek at Hard Labor is located in Rutledge, 5 miles north of I-20 at Exit 105, just minutes east of Covington.
The Golf Operations Section develops and operates the golf facilities in the Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites Division. The eight courses were built over the past forty-five years and placed in various state parks to improve the quality of life for local citizens and provide visitors to Georgia an opportunity to play great value golf in a beautiful, natural setting. More information about all eight of the Georgia State Park Golf Courses can be found online at www.GolfGeorgia.org or by calling toll free 1-800-982-3691.

GOLF NEWS BLOG FOR THE ATLANTA AREA... By KIM, JOHN Posted: 2004-12-06

- Another reason to be mad at the Weather Guy: He’s a better golfer than we are. Marshall Seese of The Weather Channel (http://press.weather.com/index.php/meteorologists/12.html) battled a record Hurricane Season and almost 50 other media representatives this summer to win the 2nd Annual Windermere Media Cup Challenge. The summer long tournament generates thousands of dollars for various charities and non-profit organizations in the North Georgia area. Congratulations to Marshall Seese and all those that participated in this great event. (And make it quit raining so much so we can all practice to beat you next year.)
- Great Gift Idea: Sure, Callaway drivers and Pro V1 golf balls never go out of style, but for those looking for other golf related gifts; we have some great new products for you to consider. The Butch Harmon Golf Glove is a unique idea designed to give you the perfect golf grip every time you swing. You can find them at any number of golf retailers and online stores. Cyclonic Golf Apparel offers some of the latest designs in golf shoes and fashion. These can be found at many stores and at their website (www.cyclonicgolf.com) And for the budding superstar in the family, check out infant and toddler items at Baby Golf (www.babygolf.com).
- Delta is ready when you are: England’s Paul Casey has made some news recently with his professed “hatred” of Americans. Somewhat curious considering he went to school in the U.S., lives in the U.S. and will try to play on the U.S. Tour full-time next year. (http://msn.foxsports.com/story/3171172). Incredibly, he stands by his remarks. It is important we that we do not stoop to his level and break golf decorum when Mr. Casey is spotted at tournaments – but let’s just say I won’t be real upset when his approach finds the drink at the 18th during the BellSouth Classic.
- The Hawks Win Big: Granted, the record of our beloved hometown Hawks hasn’t exactly been stellar lately, but in many great ways, they dominate like few other teams can. Recently, the team had their 11th Annual Foundation Golf Classic benefiting various local charities and the Atlanta Hawks Foundation. This year, the event raised $90,000 and since 1994, has raised over $1,000,000. Local luminaries including Moses Malone, Lou Hudson, Spud Webb, and Brian Jordan took part in the big day. See www.hawks.com for more details on the event and to keep up with all the details of our favorite NBA team.
- Welcome Back: After a much too long absence for our area, one of Atlanta’s most beloved local pros is back. John Crumbley, formerly of Towne Lake Hills and Gold Creek has returned to take over operations at Mystery Valley ( www.mysteryvalley.com ). I was recently out there and the course is in spectacular shape. Go by and try it yourself, and be sure to say hello to John.
- Greatest misconception: After getting married last year, I wish I had a dollar for everytime someone told me “Congratulations, but it will wreck your golf game.” People point towards Tiger Woods’ recent “struggles” to validate that theory. Granted, in my case, it’s somewhat accurate. But if you consider that the greatest golfers of all time were happily married, and in fact, usually had the greatest stretch of their careers after being married for some time (see Nicklaus, Palmer, Hogan, Player, Singh, Mickelson) and those who were married and then divorced – followed by great declines in their career (see Faldo, Montgomerie, Duval (not married, but broken engagement); I think we’re about to see Tiger’s best years ahead of him.
