City Club of Marietta
by John Kim
The City Club of Marietta is part of the massive Marietta Conference Center. The course is short (less than 5800 yards from the back tees) but is a fun layout and decent challenge. The course was once the home of the Marietta Country Club before members took the name to their new facility.
Setting Up Your Round: Due to the conference center here, the course hosts many corporate and group outings. Thus, call ahead and make sure the course is open for play before showing up. Tee times can be made up to one week in advance.
When You Arrive: The pro shop is large and houses a fair amount of inventory. The putting green is fine, the range is small and not overly impressive. Still, you should have everything you need here to warm up and get prepared to play.
Hole You Will Love: Hole #2 gives even the most average length hitter a chance to feel "Tiger-esque". A 252 yard par 4 that favors a slight fade - mid handicappers around the world should rejoice.
Hole You Won't: Hole #8 gives you a long par 5 that comes complete with a 90 degree turn (you'll need to pop your drive to make the bend), a sloping fairway, and a water hazard in front of the green. Big numbers await those who err in the slightest.
Overview: The yardage is short, the conditions are average, the layout is fair...and I really enjoyed coming here. The staff does a good job making you feel welcome and small details (like pace of play) seemed to matter here. No, it's not one of the "elite" courses of Atlanta, but if you are looking for a fun round at a good price, this wouldn't be a bad stop.
