Creekside Golf and Country Club

Creekside Golf Club has had a colorful history, even before it's opening (reopening actually) in 1999. Despite financial and design issues that plagued it early, it has settled in nicely and found it's niche on the western side of the city. This is an 18 hole championship course mostly noted for a spectacular finishing hole (a short par 5 with an island green).
Getting Started: Trust me on this one gang, CALL for directions. Mapquest, yahoo, etc...not gonna do it for you here. One of the more difficult courses to find if you aren't prepared. Tee times can be up to a week in advance.
When You Arrive: A good varity of amenities awaits you here. A small but well stocked pro shop, a large putting green, a small but "all you need" bar and dining area, and a driving range should prepare you well for your round.
Hole You Will Love: No brainer here, hole #18 is one of the best to be found anywhere. This fairly short par 5 plays way shorter since it's mostly downhill. The island green is a great touch, shades of TPC sawgrass, though trying to hit it with a 3 or 4 iron makes the mouth a bit drier.
Hole You Won't: There's a few out here that leave you a bit irked. I didn't hit a driver for the entire front nine. The course likes to promote #14 as one of the toughest pars around (and it is), but I find it overwhelmingly fair. I'm not sure I'd say that about #4, where two identical tee shots may (depending on the bounce from the mounds in the fairway) end up in very disparate locations.
Overview: Without going too much into the history of the course, it's almost a wonder this course was ever finished. The two nines are very different, because they had different architects and use of land rules. There are parts of this course that impressed me greatly. The staff and amenities (in fact, everyone I met) were top notch. I found three or four holes to be quirky to say the least, but they didn't bother me enough to ever keep me from coming back.
